The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has confirmed that 2024 was officially the warmest year on record, with global
average surface temperature reaching 1.55°C (±0.13°C) above pre-industrial levels.
This marks the first calendar year with global mean temperature exceeding 1.5°C above the 1850-1900 average. UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized that "blazing temperatures in 2024 require trail-blazing climate action in 2025," noting that while individual years exceeding 1.5°C do not mean the Paris Agreement's long-term goal is unattainable, they underscore the urgency for immediate action.
